i decided to go for a little hike this morning, up to the "living room". it's not far from where i live, a quick hike with a great view of the salt lake valley. when i was living in slc 6 years ago i could make it to the top and back in 45 min. i was in much better shape then, than i am now, as i was soon to find out.
the weather has been so great the last few days i really just wanted to be outside. as i started my little jaunt i saw heavy dark rain clouds out west, but i was not worried- they were far away and the weather man said sun was scheduled for today. besides, the clouds were moving away from me. it was the perfect day- the overcast skies kept the temperature down, the wildflowers were out in full bloom, and the mountain was green due to the rain we had over the weekend.
i started climbing and started getting out of breath (i blame it on the altitude). as i got near the top it started sprinkling, i'm hard core, a little rain isn't going to stop me. as i kept climbing i the little rain turned into pelting hail! i am not that hard core. i quickly turned around and saw lightning right above my head, and realized that i was the tallest point on that mountain. i had climbed up a canyon and knew if i could get there without getting hit i'd be ok. so i ran crouched over, being hit by hail, trying not to slip on the loose shale. success! i made it to the canyon and the hail had stopped, but only to turn into pouring rain. the trail was soaked in seconds and soon became a little river of water i was wading and slipping through.
i made it back to my car with out being hit by lightning, hypothermia, or falling in the mud. i think it was a successful day!

That's awesome. I am glad that you weren't hit by lightening.
That's why we don't hike. Or live in Utah.
Hey, btw- I think my sister in law and her family just moved a couple streets from your grandma...
