snowblowers and newspapers

i woke up this morning to snow. lots of it. i thought i had moved here late enough in the spring that i would have missed it all. i guess not.

i decided to shovel the driveway before i left for the day. i saw the snowblower, but thought it would be much quicker than using my weak arms to shovel the heavy snow. but i've never used a snowblower before, i asked my aunt amy to help get it started. she did and took over to snow blow the driveway.

we soon learned that snowblowers and newspapers do not mix. we turned the snowblower over and tried to pull it out. it was very stuck. a nice neighbor came over to help us, he is 90. he tugged and tugged, and then i tugged. all the while remembering the stories of people cleaning out their snowblowers and getting their hands turned into hamburger. i could just see the blades suddenly start turning with my good hand in it. all i'd be left with was a nub and a retarded right hand. this was not a good situation. thanks to the nice old neighbor this did not happen. we got the newspaper out with all hands attached.
